What it looks like
- Slurring, stumbling, or escalating volume
- Arguing, refusing direction, frightening those nearby
Before — design it out
- Train staff in calm de-escalation
- Pace alcohol service; have water and food available
- Agree the threshold for calling security
During — what staff do
- One calm staffer + a backup; lower your voice, give them an out
- Move them somewhere quieter, away from an audience
- Escort out with security if it doesn't settle
Remember the spine. Notice → report quietly → let trained security assess. For immediate danger, call 911 first.
